ReplyDeleteJohn Lennon once explained that he chose "Happy Christmas" for his holiday song because that's what he wanted for people. To him "Merry" was divorced from circumstances; one could make merriment in disharmony with one's surroundings. But happiness can be had only in congruence with one's surroundings and circumstances.
